Talent like his needs no introduction and the song title should tell you why this tune is on our minds!
Holiday Cheer: music that won't make you scream
It is a season of joy and good cheer. It is also a season of music that makes some people want to wear ear plugs at all times. If you love all holiday music, I envy you. If you are more like myself and want to run screaming from every department store you walk into this season, listen to these instead! Getting in the holiday spirit does not come naturally to us all. Maybe these songs will help!
"Baby It's Cold Outside": There are a zillion versions of this song. I am a big fan of this one right now!
"Let it Snow": You almost forget how this song sounds in its "normal" version when you listen to this gem!
"New Year": Start your January 1 off with this!
"River": This song is really all I want to listen to right now (albeit a not so festive song).
"Joy to the World": Search Sufjan Steven's Christmas on youtube and you will find some magic (and a few creepy renditions of classics). This one is lovely!
"What Are you Doing New Year's Eve": No one evokes the feelings quite like this women.
"Hard Candy Christmas": some might argue that this is not the type of song to "get in the spirit" with. I think it is magic!
"All I Want For Christmas is You": The only way this song could make it on this list is with classroom instruments!

Musical #TBT - I Put A Spell on You
This week's #TBT is inspired by one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time...Hocus Pocus! This clip is going to make you really pumped and give you an overwhelming urge to leave work early, or call out sick, to watch the whole movie! So pull out your costume making supplies, whip up a batch of something spookily delicious and settle in for this seasonal treat!
Don't want the Halloween themed movie party to end? This list from Buzzfeed contains pretty much every Halloween movie I have ever loved, plus some. Note the list title: horror movies and Halloween movies are not mutually exclusive and I hate to be scared!! Watch these at your own risk.
Musical #TBT - Swan Favorites for Fall
Only a few more weeks until the official start of fall and we Swans are ready for one of our favorite times of the year. In preparation and celebration we offer this fall playlist for your ears, some more "throw back" than others but all guaranteed to give you the feels.
Fall is a magical and strange season, combining a sense of melancholy and introspection with an increase in busyness/productivity. Maybe it is this contrast that makes us love it so much (soup, warm socks, sweaters and lots of birthdays don't hurt either!).
Musical TBT - Hey Jealousy
This song, on a hot day in September when we are torn between our craving for fall and our urge to hold on to the warmth and fun of summer... and we just want a banana smoothie so bad!
Muscial TBT: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Brought to you by...
Today's musical #TBT is brought to you by Hasbro circa that glorious decade, the 80's! So many musical icons got their start in this decade of bright colors, big hair and spandex. One such shining star is Whitney Houston. This music video is pretty much perfect. I mean, just look at her eye shadow. Pair with the nostalgia inducing commercial for the Get in Shape, Girl! fitness line and you will be pulling out your ribbon dancers and teasing your hair in no time.
Wishing you all a happy weekend of getting in shape and dancing with somebody!
Musical TBT - Boys of Summer
It is the first week of June, and while the weather in this strange yankee state we call home might not have gotten the memo, that means summertime is upon us! It is a magical season full of new adventures swirled up with nostalgic memories of past escapades. This combination creates what might possibly be the perfect conditions for living in the present. Wouldn't fond thoughts of the past and excited plans for the future kind of positively cancel each other out? And isn't it easier to just be present in the moment while sitting in the park on a summer day? Why not try living in the past, present, and future all at once? "How do I do that?" you are asking. Go to your favorite outdoor space and think about all the fun things you are going to do this summer while listening to this Musical TBT.
Version one is for all you southern transplants who will always hold a special place in your heart for a band named Codeseven!
Version two never goes out of style!
Musical TBT: Age of Aquarius from Hair!
Check out this week's musical TBT in honor of an exciting announcement...and because the opening scene of the movie Hair is just stupendous!
#BKSwan will be hosting our good friend, Sam Miller, for a day of astrological readings THIS MONTH, on Sunday the 19th!!!
Sam's day of readings at #MHTNSwan late last year were such a success that we had to bring her back for more. Each reading will last approximately 2 hours and the cost is $150 per reading. Pre-registration is necessary to give Sam time to prepare your chart. Email us at BKSwanPilates@gmail.com to sign up! Readings will begin at 12:30!
Watch this video to get yourself in an astrological mood and read on to learn more about Sam's background and check out some testimonials.
Sam Greenleaf Miller, LMSW, is an artist, witch and trained psychotherapist working as an astrological counselor in Brooklyn, NY. She is a graduate of the Nightlight Astrology School and earned her MSW from Smith College's School for Clinical Social Work. Her 2 hour Natal Chart Readings explore clients' birth charts, offering them insight into both what hangs them up/where they self-sabotage, as well as showing them the way to cultivate their own personal freedom.
Things people are saying about Sam:
“Sam is a wise, intuitive, and skilled therapist. she offers valuable advice and guidance no matter what the issues are, and you’ll walk away with both insight and new questions to ask yourself. Highly recommended!” -Shira S.
"I had a terrific reading with Sam. She helped me understand my natal chart both astrologically and psychologically and gave real meaning to my life: past, present and future. Sam has a true gift for understanding the strength within all of us to grow through our readings. I highly recommend Sam and I look forward to my next reading— she is a joy!" - Michelle E.
Musical TBT - Run The World (Girls)
This song on a dreary day at the end of a long, hard winter!
