Cleaning Recipe

Many of you have asked what we use to clean our space and equipment. We love natural solutions to cleaning! Here's our recipe:

1.5 cups of water

20-30 drops of Tea Tree Oil

20 drops of Dr Bronner's Lavender Soap

6 drops Orange Essential Oil

* Please note The Swans are guestimaters when it comes to counting drops. But you probably already know that from "2 more". :)

Make sure to get your oils from a good source like NOW or Aura Cacia or Wyndmere.

Awesome Dallas Clayton

Dallas Clayton shares ideas, images, inspiration and thoughtfulness with children, through his Awesome Books, and with adults, via his blog and social media presence. You may have stumbled across Dallas Clayton's work on Instagram or at a book store.  He has contributed his positive heart and endless imagination to book tours across the states visiting elementary schools, hospitals or book stores to do readings and have super fun events for children.  His books are some of our favorites and we tend to give them out to new mothers right and left.  He creates beautiful and hilarious drawings that kids adore as well as lovely, tear-jerking poetics adults love.  We have known Dallas for as many years as we've known each other.  He has always been creating, putting on shows, inspiring and making people happy and we are still so excited to see what he will come up with next.  Check out his Awesome Books and his Blog and have FUN!

Swan Travels: Delicious Coffee in Portland, Maine

All images from Tandem Coffee's wonderful website!

In Portland, Maine and need some delicious coffee?  Check out Tandem!

We met Will, one of the owners, and talked for a long time to Chris the barista, who has spent time at Blue Bottle in SF and New York and now lives in New Orleans. The coffee was great -- we bought a pound of beans scooped out from a bucket, freshly roasted in the back. Tandem is opening a bakery/second location in just a couple weeks!

Jill Lindsey

We visited Jill Lindsey's store in Ft Greene this week and it is lovely! She carries handmade leather sandals, handmade soaps, colorful handmade rugs and throws (to die for! someone buy me one please), beautiful clothes and killer jewelry. We sat at the wine bar in the back (you heard right), drank rose and hung out with beautiful smiling Jill. Definitely worth a trip to Myrtle Avenue.

Check out this feature on Swan favorite Whitney Scott on Alldayeveryday. We love her color magic on our locks and visiting her at Suite Caroline. Whitney makes magic happen whether it is correcting a color gone wrong to painted on highlights and rainbows. Nothing beats visiting Suite Caroline with it's welcoming, chilled out vibe and spending a few hours in Whitney's chair.

Aqua Spinning

Swans love water. Many of us have recently become smitten with AQUA, a new aquacycling studio in TriBeCa.

Reasons we love AQUA?

It provides an impact free interval workout. Heart rate up. Joints supported. All your resistance comes from the water.

All of their instructors have multidisciplinary approaches to movement and fitness. They are curious, thoughtful and creative. They call attention to your breath and alignment throughout class. The administrative staff is responsive, caring and make you feel at home- even during your first visit when you might have no idea what spinning in a pool means.  You are taken care of well.

It feels good. Today it is sweltering. Soon it will be Autumn and we will long to hold on to Summer. Being in a pool with a good soundtrack gives you relief from the stresses of seasons in the city while reaping the physical and psychological benefits of cardio sprints. Getting hot during class? Give yourself a splash.
